A type of work team called self-directed work team is a group of people who work together on projects that are identified by the members themselves. The concept of self-directed work teams involves very little interference of traditional management style. In traditional management, the upper management of an organization identifies the areas of improvement and delegate the related responsibilities among the team members. When an organization has self-directed work teams, the involvement of upper management is less and the team itself identifies the project, determine the related factors and evaluate the benefits, costs, processes etc. associated with the selected project. Self-directed work teams are of two type, little s teams and big S teams.
