Median Chart Notes:
Median charts are preferred to be used where X bar charts cannot be used. When a lot of subgroups are considered, it becomes so tiresome to calculate the averages of the subgroups. In this case, median chart may be used. Median is the center point of a data set when all the points are arranged from high to low. Also, median charts can be used in situations when there is a doubt regarding the accuracy of the calculated subgroup means/averages. For median charts, an odd subgroup size is preferred. In addition, small sample sizes are used. But large sample sizes aid in capturing non-random variations in the process.
