Process Capability Notes:

By reducing the random and non-random variations from a process, the process becomes stable. However, being stable is not sufficient. A process must be capable enough to produce products that meet the specifications. A process that is highly capable will be able to produce high number of good quality or defect-free products. Process capability is normally measured by parts per million defect levels. It means that out of million products produced, a very small number should be defective in order to consider a process capable. To check process capability, capability studies are performed. These studies have two purposes, to check whether a process consistently produces conforming products, and to check whether the process should be consistently monitored or not.
