Group Technology Notes:
Group Technology is a technique in which similar parts of different products are grouped together. While producing complex products, the different products are divided into their parts so that the advantage of their similarities in both design and manufacturing can be taken. After that, the similar parts are grouped together. These groups are called part families. By applying the technique of group technology, many benefits can be obtained. Material handling can be reduced. Tools and fixtures for a specific part family can be standardized. As a result of this, setup times are reduced which in turn reduces the manufacturing lead time.
