Core competency is a set of skills and resources that position an organization in the market uniquely. It distinguishes the organization from its competitors. Core competencies involve many people inside and outside the boundaries of the organization and almost all the functions of the organization. Unlike the physical resources, core competencies do not deteriorate over time. However, they must be updated and enhanced regularly to cope up with the changes. Core competencies glues together an existing business and its environment/market.
