In order to do pre-RFP efforts, it is important to build relationships with the customers. Relationship building provides better opportunities for contracts and funding from the customers. To build strong relationships, contractors must meet the customers face-to-face but in some situations, phone calls or emails are also sufficient. This helps in developing trust. A customer will definitely prefer that contractor who it already knows or trusts. Contractors should meet a member of the customer's organization on personal basis and make relations accordingly. It is important to understand that building contacts and relationships with potential customer is not a one-time activity i.e. for the current contract opportunity but it should be frequent.
