Successful Project Management by Jack Gido and James P. Clements
Exception Notes:
The requirements of a project are identified by the customer. These requirements are communicated to potential contractors through request for proposal. A proposal by a contractor lists the tasks and activities which will be performed by the contractor to achieve the objectives of the project and fulfill the customer's requirements. However, sometimes a requirement could not be met by a contractor for some reason or the contractors does not consider a particular requirement feasible in any way. The difference in the fulfillment of the requirements is called exception. For any requirement that could not be or should not be met, exception should be taken. But it is important to provide the customer with the reason of not fulfilling the requirement or the proposed alternative for the requirement for each exception.
