A process that produces the products must be capable enough to produce all the products according to the specifications. The capability of a process is important to calculate in order to identify any issues in the process that may result in non-conforming products. Process capability is the ability of a process to produce products that meet the defined specifications. Although there exist many reasons of variation within the process, a capable process is able to produce consistent products. Process capability (Cp) is calculated by subtracting upper and lower specification limits and divide the answer by 6 sigma. If Cp is less than 1, process is incapable and if Cp is greater than 1.33, the process is very capable.
