Competing or Forcing Notes:

Conflicts may arise between the members of a project team due to their different backgrounds, expertise, locations and culture. There are different approaches to handle conflict. One of them is called competing approach which is also called forcing approach. In this type of approach, the value of winning the argument is more than saving the relationship between conflicting parties. This approach refers to the win-lose situation. In this approach, usually the person on higher position wins the argument. For example, if a conflict arises between a team member and the project manager, the team member usually has to agree to work on a task according to the project manager's way even though he/she does not want to do it. Competing/Forcing approach of handling conflict is not a preferred approach as it normally results in resentment.
