A strategic business unit is a functional group within an organization that represents a firm's core business. All the strategic business units are headed by a single executive while each strategic business unit has its own manager. Developing strategic business units within organization helps to become customer focused organization. Each strategic business unit work closely with the customer. The resources of one strategic business unit can be shared with another unit. For example, a supplier for automotive parts can develop separate strategic business units for each automotive company that purchases parts for it.
