Nominal Group Technique Notes:
When brainstorming, a large number of ideas are generated as brainstorming focuses on quantity rather than quality. These ideas must be shortlisted in order to choose the best one. A technique used to do so is called nominal group technique. Nominal group technique uses voting to shortlist the useful ideas for further brainstorming. Nominal group technique involves four steps. The first step is to pose a question or a problem to the group which is to be addressed. Each member write ideas related to the problem without any discussion. The second step is to list all the generated ideas on a flip chart. The third step involves discussing all the ideas till all the members understand the ideas. In the fourth step, the group members privately rank the ideas on a scale of 1 to 5. The ideas with the highest scores are selected.
