An individual who is responsible for the performance of a project is called project sponsor. Generally, an organization assigns a single individual as a project sponsor. There are several risks associated with this assignment. One of the risks is the biasness or favoritism shown by the project sponsor which results in sub-optimal decisions. To reduce this risk and other related risks, organizations have moved to the concept of committee sponsorship. Committee sponsorship involves assigning the sponsorship responsibilities to a number of people belonging to different functions of the organization. Committee sponsorship is adopted by the organizations that work under the umbrella of concurrent engineering.
