Master Production Schedule Notes:
When the work is planned and authorized, using subdivided work description (SWD), the production can take place. Before starting the actual production, a plan for production activity should be developed that includes the details regarding the number of units produced and the resources needed for them. This plan is called master production schedule. By considering the demand of the products, the capacity of the equipment and other resources and other important requirements, master production schedule is developed to understand what is to be produced, how is to be produced and when is to be produced. A master production schedule aims to guide the management regarding inventory, manpower, and cash flows, integrate all the organization activities (engineering, marketing, finance etc.), give an overall measure of performance, help in capacity planning etc.
