Laddering Notes:

It is important to divide a project into activities and tasks that are to be completed to complete the project successfully. The sequence of the activities is also needed to be established. Sometimes an activity can further be divided into sub-activities. The division of an activity into smaller units/tasks/sub-activities is done by a technique called laddering. The sub-activities must be fitted properly in the project plan. The technique of laddering is dependent on some conditions. Laddering can be done when an activity can be broken down into the same number of smaller units as its predecessors. Laddering can also be done when an activity is repeated several times during the project. For example, painting three rooms of a house is a repeated activity and it is logical to start painting the rooms simultaneously by three different people. This logical sequence is called laddering.
