Different methods are used to analyze the alternative opportunities. One of them is to make a trade-off between the costs and the benefits of the alternatives. Capital budgeting is a trade-off analysis method that is used to compare costs with financial benefits. Capital budgeting involves different methods. One of those methods is net present value (NPV) method. Net present value considers time value of money and is based on the difference between the present value of inflows and the present value of outflows. Net present value method helps to analyze how profitable the project is over a period of time.
