A component of project management plan that outlines the ways of identifying, planning, estimating, monitoring and controlling the project related costs is called cost management plan. The techniques for the cost management process are also included in the cost management plan. Cost management plan includes establishing unit of measures, level of precision and accuracy, organizational procedures link, thresholds, performance measures, reporting period and format, and any other relevant additional details. A cost management plan is needed when comparison is to be made between the actual costs and the estimated costs (i.e. budget).
