AAUAAA is an important hexamer sequence polyadenylation signal in animals, that causes polyadenylation and cleavage about 20 nt. downstream. Such hexamer sequences are very important, as proven by various in vivo and in vitro experiments. The removal of the AAUAAA sequence or even single nucleotide changes, have proven to impair cleavage efficiency severely.
