Acidic Domain Definition:

  • A transcription-activating domain rich in acidic amino acids..

Molecular Biology by Robert F. Weaver

Acidic Domain Notes:

Acidic domain, as the name implies, is an amino acid rich, transcription activating domain in cells. For example, in EBV (Epstein-Barr virus) infected cells, the domain that is required for activation of transcription is present at the C terminus and is constituted by two very different amino acid regions, and the one that is more acidic (the second putative α-helix) is an activating domain. While the other proline rich region is not self sufficient for such activation.
