Genes are a section of the DNA of the chromosome and are transmitted from parents to offspring. Genes are the units of inheritance.

Genes Notes:
A section of DNA that codes for usually one protein. It is a basic and physical unit of heredity and may vary in size from a few hundred base pairs to several million. Some genes do not code for proteins and act as regulatory proteins or sometimes code for functional RNAs which means that. During gene expression the RNA can be directly functional or be the intermediate template for a protein that performs a function.
