Single strand binding proteins Definition:

  • After the parental strands separate, single-strand binding proteins bind to the unpaired DNA strands, keeping them from re-pairing.

Single strand binding proteins Notes:

Single-stranded binding proteins are a class of proteins that have been found in organisms ranging from viruses to bacteria to humans. These protein is a protein found in Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria, that binds to single-stranded regions of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Single-stranded DNA is produced during all aspects of DNA metabolism: replication, recombination, and repair etc. But most importantly they bind to the separated strands and keep them from re pairing during replication of those strands.
