In mismatch repair, enzymes remove and replace incorrectly paired nucleotides that have resulted from replication errors.

Mismatch repair Notes:
Mismatch repair means repairing the DNA where the nucleotide pairs have been mismatched. This kind of repair is strand-specific. During DNA synthesis the newly synthesized strand will commonly include errors. It is very important to repair any such errors. In order to begin repair, the mismatch repair machinery distinguishes the newly synthesized strand from the template strand and starts the repair.
