Cosmids are hybrid plasmids that contain a cos sequence of Lambda phage. The DNA sequences of cosmids (plasmid + cos sites = cosmids) are originally from lambda phage. They are usually in genetic engineering serving the purpose of cloning vector. Genomic libraries can be built by utilizing cosmids.
