Prescott's Microbiology 9th Edition by Joanne Willey, Linda Sherwood, Christopher J. Woolverton
Crenarchaeol Notes:
Crenarchaeol is a glycerol diphantanyl glycerol tetraether (GDGT) lipid of biological membrane. It has a unique cyclohexane moiety and has also been suggested as particular biomarker for pelagic ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA). The lipids are unique to the nonthermophilic members of Crenarchaeota.
