β Lactam Ring Definition:
Cyclic chemical structure composed of one nitrogen and three carbon atoms. It has antibacterial activity, interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis.

β Lactam Ring Notes:
The β-lactam ring consists of three carbon atoms and one nitrogen atom. This structure has an antibacterial activity and interrupts the synthesis of bacterial cell wall. The name is derived from the structure as the only nitrogen atom is attached to β-carbon. This ring structure is present in all the β-lactam antibiotics.
