Locus Notes:

A specific location of a gene along the length of a chromosome is called its locus. When the locus of a gene is defined, it is easier to find it on a chromosome. Usually to specify the locus, the number of the chromosome and the name of the arm, p or q, is specified. Moreover chromosomes are divided in to bands which help specify clearly which band exactly carries the gene. 12p11.2 is an example of a gene locus.
