Crossing over Notes:
Crossing over is the exchange of genetic material between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes during meiosis, which results in new allelic combinations in the daughter cells. This is one of the mechanisms through which the genetic material gets shuffled and recombined giving rise to variations in the daughter cells which is why siblings look different from each other even thought they have the same parent.
