Penalty Power Notes:
Interpersonal influences are the types of informal powers of a project manager that he or she can use ot control his or her team. Normally, the power over the team members or employees is possessed by the upper management of the organization. The project manager has been given authority over the team members but no formal power is given to him or her even though he or she is the leader of the project team. This is the reason why the project managers use interpersonal influences. One of the interpersonal influence is called penalty power. As the name indicates, penalty power is the ability of a project manager to influence the team as the team members believe that he/she can penalize them if his/her orders are not obeyed. Penalties can include fines, punishments etc. Penalty power is closely related to reward power and both are usually considered necessary for each other.
