External Dependencies Notes:
A work breakdown structure decomposes the project into its activities and tasks. However the most important thing is to develop the sequence. While sequencing the activities, interdependencies are taken into account. Dependency refers to the inability of an activity to be performed when the activity on which it is dependant is not completed. In a project, there can be different types of dependencies among activities and tasks. One of them is called external dependency. External dependencies are basically the link between project and non-project activities. External dependencies are not in the control of the project team. However, they are included in the project schedule. An example of external dependency is the waiting for the supplier to supply the material, or getting approval from any external organization e.g. government before starting the project.
