Simulation Definition:
Simulation models the combined effects of individual project risks and other sources of uncertainty to evaluate their potential impact on achieving project objectives.
A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge by Project Management Institute
Simulation Notes:
While scheduling the project, different data analysis techniques can be used. One of the technique is called simulation. Simulation involves identifying different risks and uncertainties associated with the project, assessing their individual effects and then combining the effects to determine the overall impact of the risks on the project's objective. Probability distributions of various risks, uncertainty, issues/problems, and scenarios are used in simulation by applying different set of assumptions and constraints. Simulation is used to check the possible outcomes and the probability of the outcomes considering different inputs for the uncertain factors. Different types of simulation techniques are used in project management e.g. Monte Carlo simulation.
