A technique to represent stakeholder data is stakeholder mapping and representation. Different methods are used for stakeholder mapping and representation. One of them is called directions of influence. Using this method, the stakeholders can be categorized and classified on the basis of their influence on the project and the project team. The different classes of the stakeholders developed using directions of influence are upward (top management), downward (the team members), outward (outside parties e.g. suppliers, customers etc.), and sideward (other middle managers in the organization). The represented information can be used for decision making regarding key project stakeholders (engagement and influence).
