Decomposition Notes:
The project related activities must be defined clearly in order to perform them efficiently and successfully complete the project. In order to define the activities, the project is first divided into the activities at all levels. The process by which an overall project is divided into associated activities is called decomposition. As the name indicates, decomposition helps to divide the project into activities at high level. These activities can then be further decomposed at lower levels. The activities at lowest level are called work packages. The tasks involved in decomposing an overall project are determining the project deliverables and the work associated to it, organizing a work breakdown structure, decomposing higher levels in WBS into lower levels involving more details, assigning the identification codes to the tasks at all levels of WBS, and finally verifying all the activities decomposed against the project deliverables.
