Translation Definitions:

  1. Translation is the synthesis of a polypeptide using the information in the mRNA.

Campbell Biology by J.B. Reece, L.A. Urry, M.L. Cain, S.A. Wasserman, P.V. Minorsky, R.B. Jackson

  2. Translation happens as tRNAs add their amino acids to the polypeptide chain as the mRNA is moved through the ribosome one codon at a time.

Translation Notes:

Translation is the process in which ribosomes in the cytoplasm or ER synthesize proteins after the process of transcription of DNA to RNA in the cell's nucleus. The mRNA made in the nucleus is transported out and 'fed' to ribosomes. In translation, messenger RNA (mRNA) is decoded in a ribosome to produce a specific amino acid chain, or polypeptide and these polypeptides then undergo post translational modifications before they become mature functioning proteins.

Translation is the process in which ribosomes in the cytoplasm or ER synthesize proteins after the process of transcription of DNA to RNA in the cell's nucleus. In translation, messenger RNA (mRNA) is decoded in a ribosome to produce a specific amino acid chain, or polypeptide. The code from the mRNA is read by anticodons on the tRNA and this information is translated in to proteins.
