Carcinogens are radiations or any substances that stimulates carcinogenesis (cancer formation). Either the cellular metabolic processes are disrupted or the genome is damaged in this process of cancer formation. Many radioactive substances are considered as carcinogens, but their activity depends on the type of radiation they emit i.e. gamma or alpha rays.
