Calorie Definition:
A calorie is the amount of heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 g of water by 1°C.
Campbell Biology by J.B. Reece, L.A. Urry, M.L. Cain, S.A. Wasserman, P.V. Minorsky, R.B. Jackson
Calorie Notes:
Calorie is a measure of energy and does not measure weight or length. It is the unit that describes an energy present in a particular amount of food for example. Technically, the calorie was intended to be the amount energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 °C or 1 K, which is the same increment. That amount however depends on the atmospheric pressure and the starting temperature.
