Sinoatrial mode Definition:

  • A group of autorhythmic cells located in the wall of the right atrium, near where the superior vena cava enters the heart. This cluster of cells is called the sinoatrial (SA) node, or pacemaker, and it sets the rate and timing at which all cardiac muscle cells contract.

Sinoatrial mode Notes:

The sinoatrial node is a group of cells located in the wall of the right atrium of the heart. These cells have the ability to instinctively produce an electrical impulse, that travels through the heart through impulses. The rate of action potential production (and therefore the heart rate) is influenced by nerves that supply it. In a healthy heart, the SA node continuously produces action potential, setting the rhythm of the heart and so is known as the heart's natural pacemaker.
