Chloroplast Definitions:

  1. A chlorophyll-containing organelle found in photosynthetic eucaryotes.

    Essential Microbiology by Stuart Hogg

  2. An organelle containing chlorophyll that is found in photosynthetic eucaryotes.

Foundations in Microbiology by Kathleen Park Talaro, Arthur Talaro

Chloroplast Notes:

Chloroplasts are the cell organelles that carry the photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll and hence are responsible for carrying out the process of photosynthesis. The chlorophyll captures the energy from sunlight and coverts it to be stored in the energy storage molecules like ATP and NADPH. This ATP AND NADPH is then used in the Calvin cycle to make organic molecules from carbon dioxide.
