Chlamydiae Definition:
Members of the genera Chlamydia and Chlamydiophila: Gram-negative, coccoid cells that reproduce only within the cytoplasmic vesicles of host cells.

Chlamydiae Notes:
The Phylum Chlamydiae consists of a group of obligate bacteria that are intracellular and very diverse. They range from the symbionts of ubiquitous protozoa to the pathogens of humans. These bacteria are Gram Negative and ovoid in shape. They are smaller than or equal in size to viruses, and depend upon the host cells for replication, (thus the term obligate intracellular pathogens for some species).
