Meiosis Definition:
Meiosis is a type of cell division that reduces the number of sets of chromosomes from two to one in the gametes, counterbalancing the doubling that occurs at fertilization.

Meiosis Notes:
Meiosis is a special type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, creating four haploid cells. This process occurs in all sexually reproducing single-celled and all the multicellular eukaryotes, including animals, plants, and fungi and is an imperative step that must happen before fertilization takes place. Each of these cells is genetically distinct from the parent cell that gave rise to them in the first place.
