Hormones are distinct chemical messengers in the body that are formed in the endocrine glands and can travel far to their function site. These messengers control most key bodily functions, for example from something as simple as the urge to eat to complex systems like reproduction. Hormones also control even the mood and emotions. An example of hormones is the estrogen hormone that controls the female reproductive system.

A hormone is any member of a class of signaling molecules produced by glands in multicellular organisms that are transported by the circulatory system to target distant organs to regulate physiology and behavior.
