A metric is basically a statistic that measures the performance. Metrics can be considered in different application areas e.g. health care, education etc. A variable or attribute of a product or a service that is used to show the compliance of the product or service with the defined quality standards is called quality metric. Quality metrics are used to evaluate the quality performance of a project. These are used to determine if the customer will be satisfied with the project deliverables. Quality metrics are linked to customer needs and assess if the project deliverables are according to those needs. Some examples of quality metrics are percentage of timely completed tasks, number of defects per time period, cost control etc.
