Project management involves a set of different processes that are to be performed in order to successfully complete a project. When the project management processes are grouped together, they form a project management process group. A project management process group involves different project management processes grouped logically together to accomplish the project objectives. There are five project management process groups. The first is called initiating process group that involve processes that are used to define a new project or a new phase of a project. The second one is planning process group that involves processes which set objectives and define the tasks. The third one is executing process group which contain processes to actually perform the work. The fourth one is monitoring and controlling process group which includes processes to monitor the performance and take corrective actions. The fifth one is closing process that involve processes to formally close the project.
