Matrix Project Notes:
A systems view of project management broadly classifies projects into different categories. These categories take into account the resources, time and size of the project. One of the category of projects is matrix projects. Matrix projects involve resources from a number of different organizational/functional units of the organization. Matrix projects are usually performed in matrix type organizations. In these projects, the employees of different functional units are grouped together to work for a common objective. The employees are selected based on their expertise and available time. The employees work simultaneously in their own functional unit and in the matrix project. The employees report to two different bosses at the same time. Issues arise in matrix project when the employees are made to prefer the tasks related to the functional unit.
