Lattice energy is the measurement of the stability of a crystal lattice, provided by the energy that would be released per mole if atoms, ions, or molecules of the crystal were brought together from infinite distances to form the lattice. The lattice energy of a crystalline solid is a measurement of the energy released when ions are combined to make a compound. Lattice energy is connected with many practical properties including solubility, hardness, and volatility. The lattice energy is usually deduced from the Born-Haber cycle.
