Polygenic inheritance Definition:
Polygenic inheritance is an additive effect of two or more genes on a single phenotypic character.
Campbell Biology by J.B. Reece, L.A. Urry, M.L. Cain, S.A. Wasserman, P.V. Minorsky, R.B. Jackson
Polygenic inheritance Notes:
Polygenic inheritance occurs when one characteristic is controlled by two or more genes. Often the genes are large in quantity but small in effect. Examples of human polygenic inheritance are height, skin color, eye color and weight. In case of height, multiple genes come in to play and sometimes even the environmental factors control the phenotype of a gene.
