Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a fetal test in which a physician inserts a narrow tube through the cervix into the uterus and suctions out a tiny sample of tissue from the placenta.

Chorionic villus sampling, sometimes called "chorionic villous sampling", is a form of prenatal diagnosis to determine chromosomal or genetic disorders in the fetus. It entails sampling of the chorionic villus and testing it for chromosomal abnormalities, usually with FISH or PCR. The method is much like amniocentesis however in this case the chorionic villus cells are taken in place of amniotic fluid.
