When the protein unravels and loses its native shape a change called denaturation happens.

Denaturation Notes:
When an external stress destroys a protein, it is said to be denatured. An external stress could include extremes of temperature, pH or salt concentration. The tertiary and quaternary structure of the protein gets unfolded and protein loses its function and the protein is said to have denatured.
