Clonal selection Definition:

  • Proliferation of a B cell or T cell into a clone of cells occurs in response to a specific antigen and to immune cell signals is called clonal selection.

Clonal selection Notes:

Clonal selection is basically a phenomenon in immunology that explains the functions of lymphocyte cells of the immune system in response to particular antigens invading the body. An explanation of this theory is that al already present group of lymphocytes and specifically B cells, a specific antigen only activates its counter-specific cell so that particular cell is induced to multiply hence producing its clones for antibody production. This activation occurs in secondary lymphoid organs such as the lymph nodes or the spleen.
