Antigenic Shift Notes:
Antigenic shift is the mechanism in which different virus's strains combine together to create a new subtype that is a mixture of surface antigens of multiple original strains. The newly formed subtype is unable to be recognized by the host's immune system. Influenza virus is the best example of this mechanism.
