Autoimmune response Notes:
Such a loss of self-tolerance has many forms. For example In systemic lupus erythematosus, commonly called lupus, the immune system generates antibodies against histones and DNA which is normally released by the usual breakdown of body cells. These self-reactive antibodies cause skin rashes, fever, arthritis, and kidney dysfunction. Heredity, gender, and environment all influence vulnerability to autoimmune disorders.
