Apoptosis Notes:
Apoptosis is a type of planned death of the cell that occurs in multicellular organisms. Several biochemical events lead to distinctive changes in the cells morphology and then consequent death of the cell. These changes include blebbing, nuclear fragmentation, cell shrinkage, fragmentation of chromosomal DNA and total mRNA decay. The average adult human loses billions of cells each day due to apoptosis. Apoptosis is the planned death of a cell. There could be many reasons for this kind of cell suicide. When the cells are old and worn out and can no longer carry out their function, they are marked for apoptosis and many different proteins contribute to aid the suicide. Moreover many cells are killed on demand when their function is no longer required. The cell does not burst but is rather neatly killed off and all the waste is recycled.
